I missed this original post somehow and clipped this from a response. 

Now, I've seen NT ads (in print) and I don't recall any of them saying
they'll solve all my problems. NT isn't an application. It isn't a
computer either, but that really is beside the point. 

Since this has happened in your shop, you might take a look at what
problems you have that NT is promising to solve. I don't recall any
particular promises made by the NT ads I saw, but I suppose they might
have offered connectivity or some such. Perhaps if you addressed the
issues and solved those existing problems with the AS/400 there wouldn't
be open wounds to be soothed with ads. If you took full advantage of the
AS/400, it wouldn't be perceived as a dinosaur. I don't think that IBM can
provide an ad to make up for solutions your DP shop is not providing. 

Microsoft, the same people who produce NT, does advertise some
applications as well. Perhaps that confuses some of the people in your
shop. Maybe they for some reason think that has something to do with NT. 

You asked about my shop. I have just finished relocating to California to
work in the best shop I have ever been a part of. The pay is good, the
working conditions are great, and the surrounding area is wonderful. It's
a place where programmers are treated with respect and you don't have to
chase management jobs to get good pay. 

I work for a software vendor and yes, we are hiring. I was relocated from
Las Vegas, NV. If you happen to any sharp RPG programmers who want to work
in a shop where they don't have to put up with dumb NT suggestions, have
them send me an email. I think we want to hire another 60 developers.

Back to the original point. I still have trouble believing that someone
sees an ad for NT (I assume in print, I have never seen a television ad
for NT are there any?) and somehow feels this is going to solve some
application problem. Probably all that is happening here is that you need
to fill in some details on the last couple times this happened. My
immediate reaction is to disregard these claims as untrue, but perhaps I
am just mistaken.
