The functions that you were  performing you will keep performing. The
problems that creep in are if you were the problem solver on the big iron. If
so, you want to keep doing that, only using CL and some programming tips that
the techies trade around. 

If you do that, you'll start institutionalizing a lot of temporary solutions.
The problem is in thinking that this is a "down-sized" box that you're going
to. It really isn't. Just a different box with different rules. Take the time
to learn its rules and it will grow on you.

So, my advice is to get the IBM training (or its comparable level) in systems
administration, DB2/400, CL, and lots of communications (TCP/IP in
particular, these days). Set standards that are AS/400 standards, not
rewritten m/f standards. And, oh yeah, have a great time. It's a fun machine.
