Jeff,
I'm confused,
where did you enter the 400's address on your PC ?

It sounds like you might not have DNS running in your network.
Trying to run TCP without DNS and DHCP (for PCs not servers) is more
than a full time job. Host Table maintenance and replication quickly
becomes a nightmare.

If you are running DNS, your PC should get the AS/400's address from
the DNS server. Similarly, the AS/400 should find your PC via DNS
also.
