"<< If you use the Date data type in the new database, you won't use any extra storage at all! It only occupies 4 bytes - the same as a 6 digit packed field. And before you reject this idea on the basis of performance, make sure you read the articles on Dates and the Year 2000 that Ron Hawkins and Doug Pence wrote for Midrange Computing. To my mind the _only_ common sense articles that I've seen on the subject !!
