RE: Re: Empty subfile error message

All --
If you display an empty subfile, you get an error and the program bombs.
There is a technique where you write one record to the subfile then
immediately clear the subfile. This prevents the error.
But; isn't there a more elegant way to avoid this error. If I mismember
correctly, there's a keyword you can use. It's been over two years ...
... help!
Peace,

The real way is not to display the subfile. No I'm not being cute.
You have the control. How did you enter the SFLDSP keyword in the
DDS? I bet it is unconditioned.

Before you EXFMT on the control format check the RRN field.
Here's an example of my 'Standard"

RRN IFGT 0
        MOVE *ON *IN31
        EVAL DSPRRN = RRN
        ELSE
        MOVE *OFF *IN31
        ENDIF

*IN31 controls the SFLDSP keyword
DSPRRN is on the SFLRCDNBR keyword

P.S. If you use the PUTOVR & OVERLAY keywords don't forget the

N31 ERASE(SFLDATA)

DDS statement to get rid of the buffer!!! otherwise you may not be
seeing reality!! if you know what I mean. (try talking to a user
"who sees stuff on the screen, but the action options don't work"
on the phone routine)

If you want I'll send you my "RPG for Maintainablity" COMMON pitch
which includes a complete "standard" page at a time SFL program.
