Well first of all as with any good 4GL type tool, the fact that VA  Generator
generates COBOL is irrelevant, other than the fact that you need to buy a
compiler licence.  You debug at the 4GL level.  Also, it's only for the host
side that it generates COBOL - it can generate C++ for the client side and
future possibilities include the generation of Java for host and/or client.

It's a very versatile product and one that I think a lot more RPG shops would
do well to look at.  One other thought - the CISC box shouldn't be a show
stopper in that the host side can be written in RPG (or whatever) and the
client side - including data access written in Java.  The only thing you
_can't_ do on a CISC box is have Java code execute directly on the 400.
