Al, SAVSYS does _not_ have to be run from the console. I used to do this--and have recovered using it. The rule is that it must be run from the only interactive job (meaning restricted state) in the controlling subsystem. The way this is done is to make sure there is an AT(*ENTER) workstation entry in the controlling subsystem for your terminal, then TFRJOB to it. Once you're in the controlling subsystem, you can issue a ENDSBS *ALL to get the machine into a restricted state. Be careful to NOT do an ENDSYS, as this must be run from the console and will kill you (well, your job anyway) if not. As for all the discussion about remote access, virtually anything that does not look like a direct-attach device to the AS/400 will not work because of the additional job(s) that must be active to support the connection. This basically limits you to twinax and ascii emulating devices. In the past, I have used a KMW protocol converter attached to a twinax port. Not the greatest solution, but it worked. As others have mentioned, you can use a PC running the Console Access Feature with PC Anywhere (or something similar) to control the emulation session. I haven't used this method myself, so I don't know how reliable it is. Another option would be to dial into the ASCII WSC as a straight ASCII device (VT100, etc.). Keyboard mapping sucks, but should also probably work. ----------------------------- Greg Thielen Magellan Software gthielen@magsoft.com http://www.magsoft.com > Hi, > > For once and for all.
