A company call Gumbo Software has a very 'slick' package called
Spoolmail/400 that provides API's to send SPOOLFILES from the AS/400 to
SNADS or INTERNET e-mail addresses. 

You might want to take a look at this option even though it requires you to
create a spoolfile first....
