I don't know about #1, but I'd guess it is possible. The registry entries
would need to be created by an install on one PC and then exported and
modified so that they could be imported on other machines. Workstation
definition files would need to be local.

CA will check for updates each time it is started. The job is sloooow, a
resource hog and only occasionally finds any work to do. I don't use it
because I don't have CA installed on the AS/400, but probably would not
anyway due to the additional time required to start up. It's not very
difficult to get users to install their own updates. I've been e-mailing
them a link to setup.exe and have not had any problems so far.

If you use TCP/IP, you don't need the router. It's relatively quick,
reliable and doesn't use much AS/400 resource. The down side is that right
now at least, device names are not permanent. Each time you connect, the
name is different. There is also no native (ala SNA) printer support. You
must run LPR/LPD.
