Denis,

If you are using ILE it would be pretty easy to retrieve your file name from 
the INFDS and 
retrieve the subfile page (and a whole lot more) using the retrieve display 
file information API 
QDFRTVFD.  We have used these APIs do things that sound similar to what you are 
trying 
to do.  From RPGIII it is possible but most of the information is returned in 
offset tables 
which lends itself to pointers.  If all you want is that one specific piece of 
information then it 
shouldn't be real difficult.
