VB, ODBC and AS/400

Don:

        - Be wary of the ODBC connection being used in Access or other
application by the users.

        - If the AS/400 is heavily loaded, keep tables that can be copied
to a file server or hard
           disk off of the AS/400 so that it doesn't take forever to fill a
listbox etc.

        - Using AS/400ish techniques when working with files (I.E. similar
to RPG Setll and Reade)
           may be less burdensome to the machine than using SQL statements
for everything.  In
           particular it can help avoid returning million-record SQL
results to the PC; which doesn't
           make the PC happy, and the AS/400 server job tries to honor the
request at priority 20,
           which makes all the users on the AS/400 UNHAPPY.
