Hi KMS,
I think you are suffering from the old "bad advice" syndrom... If your S36
Database is in an AS400 library  (eg. QS36F), there is no reason in the
world that you cannot define your files via DDS to the AS400 and begin right
now using the features of the AS400 that will make your life simple.  Right
now I am working at a company that has what would be considered an horrific
database originally from from the S34---then---S36, this stuff shouldn't
even be called a database.  But we have DDS described files from this
shameful S36 database and we are able to use them.  As for ILE.....You'd
better get moving in this direction now.   And yes I have written several
ILE RPG programs that access the S36 database, and you can to!
