Other thoughts: 1-Couple the product with some promotional offer or rebate (something with a normal and expected end, like car dealers do). 2-allow the product to be on a yearly subscription price of, say, $272.50. At the end of the year the product would still work, but enhancements would only be sent to then-current subscribers. For the first year only, let it be a free give-away for the various Mid-range magazines as a promotion to help them get subscribers, or for trade show attendees like Framingham (we could use 500 or so evaluation copies there easily, but certainly 40 or 50 copies for door prize give-aways after Dinner Tuesday night, and as hand-outs at every single relevant session). 3-freely downloadable parts of the package to use in an IBM Internet sandbox. 4-a few freely distributed VARPG programs to do simple stuff like WRKSPLF and perhaps a mailing label application including the data file(s) and scrollable subfile, so that users and managers can see a spiffy non-green screen finished product. 5-A free Code/400 jacket with every copy shipped. The idea is that the jacket becomes a sort of badge. (Any shop with one programmer with one of those jackets will begin to agitate for enough jackets, oops, I mean copies, for every programmer) Jon Paris wrote: > Counter suggestion.
