Tim - if your intent is to study the data to determine the year sensitive fields and their formats, may I suggest you save yourself a ton of time and money and simply invest in one of the Y2K impact tools that scan the data _in_the_files_ to identify dates and then follow that by determining the impacted programs. Even if you are on a tight budget, there are a number of relatively low-cost tools that can do this. IBM's SEARCH2000 will do it as will PowerTools and others. It may be fun to "roll your own" but in most cases it's a complete waste of money.
