Six of one, half a dozen of another...  I don't like two reads either, but I 
like having the entire inside body of the loop enclosed
in an IF even less.  _Especially_ if the IF  is the same test as the do.
           DOU           vs.         READ
           READ                      DOW
           IF                         ...
            ...                       ...
           ...                       READ
           END                       ENDDO
           ENDDO
I like the right side better, but that's only my preference.  Anyone who 
happens to disagree is a fool and a lousy coder too!  and
yer momma wears army boots! :)
