Chuck, In a message dated 98-05-07 22:37:50 EDT, you write: <<snip>> > I used to do Applications programming before switching to this) > and I am "IT" (and I'm NOT saying that as "Mr. Bighead" but rather as "Mr. Getting > REALLY burned out, can't get ANYTHING done"...) - am I alone in this ? Or are "you" a similiar sized shop that is > staffed differently in this arena - "inquiring mind, wants to know :-) You're not alone at all, Chuck. My current primary client still has the same number of people dedicated full-time to AS/400 support as they did when I started there -- six more _LARGE_ AS/400's and 4 more mission-critical applications later. The problem? IBM sold the /400's under the old S/36 model of how many administrators you need for this sort of installation -- written before the /400 supported the number of users and the amount of DASD that it does today. I keep asking the "Tech Services" folks just how many times the company can double the number of AS/400's it has without increasing their staff. The "breakover" number appears to be ten at this point... No Help, But _LOTS_ of Sympathy, Dean Asmussen Enterprise Systems Consulting, Inc.
