Yes I meant the Client Access ODBC service.  Got to look what I type before I 
send.

My understanding was that you no longer require a continuous connection to the
AS/400 to pull ODBC data.  As long as the service was started that was enough.  
But
after following the instructions on IBM's web page and the manual I get no dice.
Can you quickly give a run down of what you did?  It would be much appreciated.
