The logical file solution is the way to go.... negative numbers are
always lower order bit of the low order byte... which most pc's can
handle..... You can move the sign around to the front with a - but
normally that's not necessary..... When going to ascii there are always
going to be slight work arounds to deal with..... I have done this a 
number of times and normally, it's not a big deal.....
