I received some advice from Jason Hanson on comp.sys.as400.misc which
seems to have solved my problem. I'm posting the correspondence here for
information only.

Thank you very much for that. I'm going to get myself on an NT course.
I uninstalled it as you described and when I re-installed it it worked
correctly. I think there may have been something in the registry causing
the
problem.
