This has been discussed before but anyway:

You can use WORD 6.0 or Word 7.0 and open any document
in an AS/400 folder.....IF you have the proper filter
installed in Word....This is an OPTIONAL install and may
require a diskette that you may or may not have... If NOT
you can download the diskette from MS web site(very slowly)

The procedure to do this  using CA/400 connection to 400...

1. Start Word
2. OPen QDLS folder
3. Find the folder in QDLS that you need
4. Find the document you need
5. Open the document
6. Close document and save to 400 or PC

This method works, one of my customers uses it every day.......

This works for documents created on 400 using OV/400 or 
Word...... I believe that WordPro in Lotus Smart Suite will do
a similar thing although, I have not tested that.....
