Joe,

A former company I worked for used Perle controllers for this purpose.
The Perle box connects to a comm cable off the AS/400 and looks like a
5394/5494 with 5250-type terminals on it. The nice thing was that the
"terminals" were actually modems hooked up to async ports on the Perle
box.

We would then pre-configure the PerleTalk software on a floppy disk for
the customer and send it to them with instructions on how to install the
program. It was DOS based, but I think Perle has a Windows version now.

It's not the most elegant of solutions, but it limits the /400 to
outsiders getting too much info from you.

Subject: 5250 choices

We need to allow many customers to dial up to an AS/400 (V4R2). We will
be giving them
a menu with a few options. They will be controlled by the program, so
they can only run
the options on the screen. I need to give these people 5250 emulation,
but no extras like file
transfer, etc. I have heard of TN5250, but have never used it so I do
not know if this is my
answer. Does anyone have any recommendations or solutions? This will be
dial up and not
internet. Thanks.
