I agree with you also.  But I think this may only be true for ASYNC line
descriptions on the AS400 as well as ASCII devices attached to an ASCII WSC.
I have tried (even though the documentation says on 19.2 is supported) to
config an ASYNC line to 38.4 for a SLIP connection and the AS400 will not
talk to the modem , no initialization, no nothing.  On a SYNC line, either
BSC or SDLC, I think that perhaps the modem speed parameter does not matter.
