Yes. It's called concurrent system access. It is covered in the user's
guide. Essentially PC, displays, and printers can be attached to a control
unit that is terminated on AS/400 A and communicate 'directly' with AS/400
B. You need to be current on your 5494 microcode. We use it here for
concurrent display access but not for printers but I know you can use it
for printers.

Essentially you configure the 5494 for concurrent access (it's a flag) then
you configure the other hosts (H2, H3, H4). This is all on screen 2 of the
5494 config. Then you can assign a device permanantly or temporarily to
whichever host.

If you need points to specific parts of the manual or have some specifc
question give me a shout.

Subject: Remote Communications 5494

We have a 5494 remote workstation controller connected to a dedicated
data line. We are in the process of moving the line to another AS/400
system, but in the meantime would like to have the printers and displays

connected to this 5494 device accessible via another AS/400 on the same
network (we are using passthru and remote writers right now, but the
speed of the remote writers is inferior for our needs). Is there a
way to configure the 5494 to point to a different system while remaining

physically connected to the same system as it is now?
