IBM Y2K Readiness

I am not sure who from IBM responded with the windowing answer, but
current IBM products most certainly do follow our guidelines for Year
2000 and to solely provide an ambiguous windowing approach is not one of
the product options.  The original response was mistaken and a PTF is
being provided for the V3 facsimile offerings.

I must also report that other offerings, having been previously declared
as Year 2000 Ready, have also had to put out PTFs.  This is true, for
instance, for some of the security outfiles provided within OS/400 for
V3R2 and V3R7.  I am not aware of any major operational problems found,
but there has been some cleanup in the area of programming interfaces
(and especially outfiles).  Unless someone out there knows how to 100%
test the operations and interfaces of a product (in a timeframe that is
meaningful that is), I would not be surprised to see additional PTF
activity.  On the good side, I do view that the lack of a century
indicator in a file of the non-Licensed Program facsimile offering
to be an indication of pretty good testing and design in the IBM
products; that is, if this is the worst that surfaces with all the past
and current internal/external testing then I will be "happy".
