First and foremost, if you are keeping your AS/400 current on OS/400, the
system and licensed program products should not be a Y2K issue.  I do not
see the Y2K issue as an AS/400 issue, but cutting across all systems.
Therefore my answer falls somewhere between questions one and two....Does
1.5 count as a correct answer!  =:-)

North American Mortgage is now regulated by the OTS (Office of Thrift
Supervision) which is under the US Dept. of Treasury if I remember
correctly.  This is a result of being purchased last November by Dime Bank
of New York.  They have the authority to close our doors if we do not
demonstrate results that make us Y2K compliant.  They have been here three
times auditing our progress since January.  As a result, Y2K is a priority
and will not be an issue here in terms of major problems.  We are making
strides on all platforms to demonstrate Y2K compliance.

My biggest concern about Y2K is not from our own internal systems, but from
those business partners that have done little or nothing to demonstrate Y2K
compliance.  It does not matter how well your internal systems have cleared
the Y2K bar if your business partners that you depend on have not.  We will
be doing interface testing in the Dec 98, Jan 99 timeframe to identify who
does not make the cut and plan accordingly.

As a result, there are plans being drawn up for replacing those partners
that cannot demonstrate Y2K compliance.  If others do this as well, yes, I
could see a scenario where 1 in 10 could go out of business because of Y2K.
But, I think you will see the degradation in partner performance starting 2d
quarter next year....

I am of the opinion that we will see some Y2K issues here in the US.
Nothing that is *showstopper* and lasting no more than a week in duration.
I look for it to be more of a nuisance and inconvenience.  No, I am not
buying a bunker located in "Parts Unknown" to sit the century change out!
