Just a guess here. The 9427 has two extra slots that can contain a
cleaning tape or diagnostic cartridge or test tape (as well as a
regular additional tape). Maybe the first DSPTAP is displaying a test
tape or cleaning cartridge, and the second time it moves to the first
data cartridge ?
I've seen that behaviour on thrid party 3490 clone drives.
PS - The waiting for tape load is just somethibng you have to live with
with 8mm.
If you want faster loading you need to look at 3490/3590/3570

Subject: IBM 9427-210 Tape Unit Question
Hi Folks,
I'm TRYING to like the 9427 at my new employer (but MAN I miss my 3509
!!!!)...
I load a cartridge into the unit and it loads.
I go to a device and do a DSPTAP TAP01 and press Enter.
After waiting WAY too long (thanks 9427) I get a Display Tape Volume
Information display and it shows NOTHING on the tape.
I exit this screen and then do another DSPTAP TAP01 and press Enter.
I wait too long again and I get a Display Tape Volume Information
display and it has ALL KINDS of information about what is on the tape
!!!!
WHAT is going on with this thing ?
Anyone else seen similiar thingss ?
Thanks,
Chuck
