Mohammad,

This CL pgm does not interact with display files, rpg pgms, etc.

It simply accepts 3 parms: Object Name, Object Library and a
completion flag.

It then checks for the presence of the object and sets the completion
flag to Y or N.

One problem is that you specify the object type in your CHKOBJ as
&type, but you never set that to be a value. Normaly it would be
*FILE, *PGM, *DTAARA, or something like that.

I highly recommend that you find yourself a good "AS/400 Concepts"
book or online training course and get thru it as fast as you can.
Your employer has obviously done a poor job of preparing you for the
AS/400, and without the some basic background information, this will
get very frustrating for you....no mater how good of a programmer you
are.

I have found the ATS courses to be quite good. You can find
information at: http://www.ibmuser.com/

You might also try http://www.400school.com/

It goes back to the saying about "you can give a man a loaf of bread
and he will be feed for a day. Or you can teach him to farm and he
will be feed for the rest of his life".

Right now, you are getting bread.

Bob

Subject: cl question

i was working on the cl part of my job and came up with a few
questions. this is my cl pgm so far based on a layout i have, a few
changes ought to be necessary i think.

PGM PARM(&OBJ &LIB &OK)
DCL &OBJ *CHAR 10
DCL &LIB *CHAR 10
DCL &TYPE *CHAR 6
DCL &OK *CHAR 1 'Y'
CHKOBJ &LIB/&OBJ &TYPE
MONMSG CPF0000 EXEC(CHGVAR &OK 'N')
ENDPGM

anyway, my question is how, how does this cl pgm know
what &OBJ &LIB &TYPE &OK refer to when this cl pgm has to interact
with display files and rpg pgms, etc...

sincerely

Mohammad
