JDE also has a separate field for Century besides their julian date format.
We use JDE but have always maintained our own custom date file that contains
lots of formats, like CCYYMMDD and others.  We haven't had any troubles with
their format and any custom stuff we write against JDE, we have found their
little "data conversion" routine and use it.  BTW, there is a JDE email list
if anyone is interested.  Like this one, it is maintained by "the users",
not JDE.  As I recall, you "Subscribe" (in your subject) to JDEList@Ibm.net
