Pick a date, preferably in the distant past, as your base date. Compute the number of days from the base date to the target date. Divide the number of days by 7. The remainder is the day of the week of the target date (0=day of the week of the base date, 1=next day of the week, etc.) This algorithm is pretty easy to implement with RPGIV and date data type.
