By defining the record number as the key you have limited your choices to two, I believe. One choice is to make a new field in the record and z-add the record number to it and making the file uniquely keyed on that number, and from then forward deal with the file as a keyed physical file. The other dismal choice would be to define the file as a demand file of sufficient size to hold the highest record number. Reorganizing the files prior to conversion is not an option. -- ----------------------------------------------------------- boothm@ibm.net Booth Martin ----------------------------------------------------------- +--- | This is the Midrange System Mailing List! | To submit a new message, send your mail to MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com. | To subscribe to this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-SUB@midrange.com. | To unsubscribe from this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-UNSUB@midrange.com. | Questions should be directed to the list owner/operator: david@midrange.com +---
