Uttam, Java's been kicked around here (off and on) for some time now, with no real concensus on its future on the AS400. If you have the oportunity to learn it, go ahead and do so. I believe Java (or something similar to it) points the direction of the future of IT, sort of the "holy grail" to the legions of programmers who must support multiple platforms. I personally have not "switched" as all of our code is RPG, but I can see the day when I'll need to know how to switch. Prepare now, learn OO design techniques, look ahead, not back. And hold on to your hat, cause things are gonna be nutz.... eric.delong@pmsi-services.com ______________________________ Reply Separator _________________________________ Subject: RPG,COBOL or JAVA Author: <MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com > at INET_WACO Date: 12/7/98 11:00 AM Hi AS400 members, I have a question. How many of you RPG and COBOL programmers would really want to switch to JAVA. Do you see it really necessary for one to upgrade in this language as IBM has a lot of stuff already for JAVA. I just want to know is it the bread for the future AS400 programmers. Your suggestions will be very help for me. Regards, Uttam H.
