Jeff--

Lightning is an CA/400 component (included in the free part of CA/400) that
provides a Windows<>DB2/400 database engine. Lightning lets you do DB2/400
record level access easily from languages such as VB and Delphi, talking
from Windows to the AS/400 through the OS/400 optimized servers. Using the
record-level access capabilities of Lightning doesn't change much from an
application standpoint, and files get opened per client.

However, Lightning can also do Windows-to-OS/400 program calls. You may be
able to achieve some of what you want with this aspect of Lightning.

There is a great Lightning redbook (Craig Pelkie wrote most of the good
parts). Go to www.redbooks.ibm.com and do a fastfind on "OLE DB"
