you could use query to create a file based on File 1 that has only one
record per object name.  Sort on object name.  If all the other fields are
identical for both records then put a 1 beside all the fields in the Report
Breaks section.  Then in the output specifications, specify that you want
the output to be a database file and that you want summary only output.  The
file created by this query would be used in the file specs of your original
in place of File 1.
