Rich most date simulators are not very expensive.
Some are stand alone some are part of Y2K solution packages.

Products such as SIMDATE function equally as well and have some added
features. One of the keys to feeling comfortable might be going to a
Web site for a download and test drive first. This not only allows the
warm feelings but saves lots of time in product selection/functionality
needs.

Simulator or not a second system or disaster recovery site might be in
order for the ultimate or heavy testing. The date simulators can be
very helpful in a second system environment in the execution and
development environments. [All the same reasons - especially avoiding
setting the system date forward and all that implies]

Nonetheless, if your testing it is likely you will want such items as
data agers, data comparators, Record & Play Capture tools to round out
theTest environment tool box.
Seasons Greetings
