>I'm still stuck. What is wrong with this code? >Why do I get a value of 000538976288 as the value >in the fields DB1RRNand DB2RRN for every single record? >This is in a 7-record file. Both files are logicals. > > FPHONEFL1 IF E K DISK REMOTE INFDS(DB1) > F RENAME(RPHONE:RPHONE1) > FPHONEFL2 IF E K DISK REMOTE INFDS(DB2) > F RENAME(RPHONE:RPHONE2) > D DB1 DS > D DB1RRN 397 400B 0 > D DB2 DS > D DB2RRN 397 400B 0 This number is the equivalent of x'20202020' - ASCII Blanks. Similar code works for me in VaRPG (SP5) i.e. DB1RRN is populated with a "real" number whether I use a PF or LF. Have you done any I/O to either file before checking the value? Was the input successful? When I do a READ/CHAIN and get a no record condition, the INFDS has x'20202020' Other folks have mentioned record blocking and POST. Record blocking means that the INFDS isn't updated as frequently as you might think. POST tells the compiler to update the INFDS immediately, but you need to read the restrictions on exactly what fields do and do not get updated after a POST.
