Exactly !!
You can create and use EVI index only by SQL commands, because SQL can
benefit from this.
Underlying file can be SQL table or DDS-created PF.

Hmmm, so the distinction isn't for what's used to create a table (between
OS/400 "native" commands and SQL) but rather what mechanism (record level
access out of a HLL versus SQL) is used to access the table. Thus, (it is
assumed) VEI works best for SQL-imposed access, right?
