Vikas, scanf() has worked consistently on all CISC and RISC versions for a long time. It's an ANSI standard so you can just use it as you would on any platform running C. The normal data types you are used to in C will work with scanf just like you think. So ints, shorts, longs, etc. will be fine using the normal formatting options with scanf(). IBM does provide data type definitions for AS/400 specific numeric types. See decimal.h for descriptions of these. They work pretty much like you would hope. You can cast them as needed for the ANSI C routines. hth, Patrick Vikas Taskar wrote: > > Hi, > > I have a rather elementary query.Does the scanf statement work on all > versions of OS/400/Are there different statements for inputting > variables for different OS Versions? > > Thanks in advance, > > tats! > > ----Vikas > +--- > | This is the Midrange System Mailing List! > | To submit a new message, send your mail to MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com. > | To subscribe to this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-SUB@midrange.com. > | To unsubscribe from this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-UNSUB@midrange.com. > | Questions should be directed to the list owner/operator: david@midrange.com > +--- -- IBM AS/400 communications, FTP automation, and network security software and consulting services. http://www.patownsend.com +--- | This is the Midrange System Mailing List! | To submit a new message, send your mail to MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com. | To subscribe to this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-SUB@midrange.com. | To unsubscribe from this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-UNSUB@midrange.com. | Questions should be directed to the list owner/operator: david@midrange.com +---
