I don't have an AS/400 in front of me, but can't you do the following????
   CRTDUPOBJ ORIGDQ LIBNAME *DTAQ *N TEMPDQ
   DLTDTAQ LIBNAME/ORIGDQ
   RNMOBJ LIBNAME/TEMPDQ *DTAQ ORIGDQ

That *should* do what you want, since queues are not copied on CRTDUPOBJ.
At least on paper or terminals it looks good.  :^)

Subject:  Rebuilding data queues




Doe anyone know of a way to automatically delete and recreate a data queue?
We have data queues that sometimes get pretty large. Clearing them doesn't
reduce their size, they have to be recreated.

RTVOBJD doesn't return the data queue type or size.
