Well, I haven't done this particular code (so no stew slap'n here)
but...

Two ways come to mind.  One is to output the save information to an
output file during the save.  On the member option specify *ADD instead
of *REPLACE.  Add up the column for offline bytes.  Find out what your
shortest tape is, leave yourself some room and send yourself a message
or e-mail when the selected "threshold" is exceeded.

The second way involves the use of the MSE.  Media Storage Extensions. 
If this is installed on your system (GO LICPGM, SS1, I forget the
option.) then you can code an exit program to receive the labels when
the tape is closed.  Add up the blocks used, multiply by block size,
total and store somewhere (like a data area or something).  Finish with
the logic in option one for threshold and notification.
