David,

We use both 3570 and 3590.

Tape cost: 3570=$71.00 3590=$40.00
3570 slightly slower (by about 1/3)
3570 holds 20 tapes vs base 3590 of 10

Cost of 3570 was dirt cheap compared to 3590.

My thought- Either is good choice.

If you go with the 3570 and will be using the robotics mode (random), spring
for the tape bar code reader. Major pain to re-read all tapes every time door
is openned.

3570 works on NT and unix boxes. But why would anyone move away from an AS/400
to either Unix or NT???

John

We've been using IBM 3480s but we're going to be migrating to something else.

Are you using DLT or AIT tapes? What are your experiences with this media?
I asked this question earlier in the week - but no one has indicated they use
either of these.
What about you?

A number of people seem to be happy with IBM's 3570 media. We'd move that
way but AIT or DLT seems to give us more options if we decide if to move away to
a
UNIX platform in 2 or 3 years.

Thanks for your help!
