I suspect that OV/400 will be around for quite some time, although
IBM says it is stopping support doesn't mean it won't work... If you
need to be on V4XX at a later date, then you will have to look at
alternatives.... Lotus Notes/Domino or whatever they are currently
calling
it, is not a functional replacement for OV/400.. Lotus is the one
selling & supporting and I understand there is a great deal of confusion
about who to call about what.. This gets interesting when you have a
"dispute" about what exactly the problem is. Although you can cobble
a PC solution together using MS Office, it's just not the same.. I
understand that IBM sold just over 100,000 copies of OV/400 and you can
bet, they will not all go to the Lotus solution... This could be another
IBM shoots self in foot deal. As strange as this sounds to some people,
there are a lot of folks out there who really like OV/400 and what it
provides. If it were me, and I had a large number of seats of OV/400,
I would plan on keeping at least an older 400 strickly for OV/400
until a better solution pops up. Watch for somebody to possibly take
over support for OV/400 similar to DMAS,MAPICS, etc, etc... It will
not die easy or go away soon.
