I would have said exactly the same, but I just did a few quick tests and
there did seem to be a marked difference in performance with the messages
on of off. I'd still be surprised if it made the difference between 2
minutes and 5 minutes. It could possibly be related to general system
tuning between the batch and interactive pools given their actual workload.

As an aside, if I had a 2 minute batch OPNQRYF I'd be very reluctant to run
that interactively in a production environment.

Joe, some feedback on your results would be welcome.
