Actually ACOM makes use of  PCL (printer control language).  We have been using
it and it works fairly well .

 If you are willing to do some work you could forgo the ACOM product and just
purchase their  Windows forms designer QuickForm. QuickForm is actually
develloped by another company "MIPS Dataline America" under the name TransForm
and  at a much lower price. You could  develop your forms and download them into
the printer as macros. You would also have to download any  fonts to the
printer.  You would then have to embed the escape sequences into your the data
of your actual reports. I know this sounds quite cumbersome,  but it isn't that
difficult once you learn the PCL language.  We had to use this approach in
producing forms on our  UNIX systems.   You could actually use the Forms pakage
to develop a sample of your data. This would give you all the escape codes you
would need to embed in  your AS400 reports.









Has anyone used APF and overlays for printing laser checks off the 400?  I
know there is a product by ACOM out there, but it seems pretty pricy for
what you get.  Any comments by anyone??
