So the hype says. The committee is still sitting and the jury is still out. Unfortunately the EDI world has so much time and money invested in traditional (X12 style) EDI that your not going to see a massive change anytime soon. Remember EDI is way of exchanging documents in your database with your trading partners and as long as those databases remain the way they are you're going to see a need for some sort of translator. (We had a debate on database models a while back) When the software companies like SAP, JDE et al develop their business document models on the DTD's then we may get around to seeing translator-less EDI. If you're holding out to see what happens be prepared for a long wait. > -----Original Message----- > From: Alan Schuetze [SMTP:aschuetze@magsoft.com] > Sent: Monday, April 19, 1999 3:23 PM > To: 'MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com' > Subject: RE: EDI Translator wanted > > I thought XML and published DTDs were going to remove the need for > translators. > > Is XML still too far off? > > Regards, > > Alan Schuetze > > Magellan Software > The Leader In Document Mining Technology* > Tel: 949-455-9551 Fax: 949-455-9664 > www.magsoft.com <http://www.magsoft.com> > > > -----Original Message----- > From: Art Tostaine, Jr. [SMTP:art@link400.com] > Sent: Monday, April 19, 1999 9:49 AM > To: midrange-l@midrange.com > Subject: EDI Translator wanted > > Can anyone make a recommendation for a low cost EDI translator? > > The high prices of AS/400 translator's from Premenos and > Sterling > are > causing us to look elsewhere. > > Customer needs to do 856 & 210 transactions right now, possible > many > more > transactions soon. > > We would like to have a PC act as an "EDI Server" where we could > put > our > flat files into a network directory or shared folder, have the > PC > wake up, > translate it, and stick the translated file back out on the > network. > > Then our AS/400 could send the file on its way. > > Art Tostaine, Jr. > CCA, Inc. > Parlin, NJ 08859 > > +--- > | This is the Midrange System Mailing List! > | To submit a new message, send your mail to > MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com. > | To subscribe to this list send email to > MIDRANGE-L-SUB@midrange.com. > | To unsubscribe from this list send email to > MIDRANGE-L-UNSUB@midrange.com. > | Questions should be directed to the list owner/operator: > david@midrange.com > +--- > +--- > | This is the Midrange System Mailing List! > | To submit a new message, send your mail to MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com. > | To subscribe to this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-SUB@midrange.com. > | To unsubscribe from this list send email to > MIDRANGE-L-UNSUB@midrange.com. > | Questions should be directed to the list owner/operator: > david@midrange.com > +--- +--- | This is the Midrange System Mailing List! | To submit a new message, send your mail to MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com. | To subscribe to this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-SUB@midrange.com. | To unsubscribe from this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-UNSUB@midrange.com. | Questions should be directed to the list owner/operator: david@midrange.com +---
