John I would have to say that your comments with V2 are trues, but take a look at V3 and you will see that you should just forget about V2, pretend it didn't exist. Although there are still issues with the samples they are better and the store creator will help you get started and understand the buying process in a much clearer way. The product now try's to fit the AS/400 rather than trying to make the AS/400 fit its way of doing things always a good start. Yes to really get to grips with it understand the Webserver, Net.Data, C++ and IP if you do that you can make it go a long way. We have got a site running under V3 and it works well selling tickets, I don't think we could have done what we did under V2, that's how different it is. Also support is an issue but then with anything to do with the web support is an issue ! Thanks Bleddyn http://www.ignite400.org/ your AS/400 Internet/Intranet questions answered. -----Original Message----- From: owner-midrange-l@midrange.com [mailto:owner-midrange-l@midrange.com]On Behalf Of John Myers - MM Sent: Monday, May 24, 1999 06:23 To: MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com Subject: RE: net.commerce Don, My staff tells me that net.commerce is really a "framework" for eCommerce & not a package. We have been working with it for several months now & I certainly understand your frustration. The macros supplied with the "sample store" have significant disclaimers on their suitability for use. It appears that you are dead in the water if you do not have a grasp of Net.Data macro coding. It's certainly not a package that you can use "out of the box". I would have expected more from IBM. On the AS/400, there are also significant OS/400 & net.commerce release compatibility issues. We tried to install V2 of net.commerce on a V4R3 AS/400 ... bad move ... changes in OS/400 from V4R2 to R3 rendered the installation instructions obsolete (& no replacements were to be found)! Hopefully this has been remedied with V3 of N/C. Support for N/C is a matter of luck, at the best. If you find the right individual, you can get an answer, but the traditional support channels don't know enough to help. All of the internal N/C knowledge at IBM seems to be allocated to billable customer projects ... if you're not using IBM to implement, you seem to be on your own! Is this the new IBM???
