Consider a naming convention for your system that is independat of the IP number. Our AS/400 is named Mars, the unix box is Sun, the dial-in box is Moon, etc. Then we use the tables to point where ever we want. Changes in IP number are no longer a major issue. Since you are going to renumber anyway, what an ideal time to make the shift. An example would be "midrange.com" David can take the mailing list anyplace he wants but we'll all still find it without him coming out to our place and fixing our host tables, right?
