The ranges you have seen (20MB to 160MB) may seem to be inconsistent - but -
the answer is relative to the efficiency of the blocking of the data. The
math becomes simple when you know that the IRG (inter record gap) is .75
inch or a waste of approx. 4687.5 bytes. Divide 180,000,000 [ max for 2400'
reel] by your (block length + 4687.5) and you will find out how many blocks
of data will fit.

Subject: A Math Question
Does anyone know approximately how much data (ie: MB or GB or ???)
fits on a
big 9 track tape @ 6250bpi?
