Evan, In the October NEWS/400 there is an article on our TCP/IP support, including Telnet User Exits. One useful function described is what is called 'wildcard device support', where a device name is created using fixed and variable parts. http://www.as400.ibm.com/tstudio/TECH_REF/tcp/Indexfr.htm http://www.as400.ibm.com/tstudio/tech_ref/tcp/indexfr.htm Click on "Telnet Exit Program" in the column on the left and the middle of the page to get to it. By the way, the Exit Points are QIBM_QTG_DEVINIT format INIT0100 and QIBM_QTG_DEVTERM format TERM0100, and you are also correct in that the devices are not yet allocated. I did fix a bug in the reverse DNS feature - you can use this to allow only those clients in your reverse DNS to connect. Plus, you can name the devices after the hostname of the client based on the reverse DNS output....I like that part, and use it in-house for our RF folks (I found the bug setting it up for our RF folks!). -- J.S.
