How does free sound to you?
You don't develop the java code on the AS/400. You develop the code on
another platform (Windoze, OS/2, Unix, HP-UX, Solaris, Linux, etc.) and
then put the class objects on the AS/400.
The 400 "compiler" is the CRTJVAPGM command and is used to improve
performance of a java program only. It is not required to be used. It
comes with the AS/400 at version 4 release 2 and above for free.
Editor? Use your favorite PC editor, or... go get the evaluation copy of
CODE/400 and Visual Age RPG. It includes a slick editor (PC Windoze
based) called LPEX that is more than sufficient for the purpose and has
no significant cripling of the software.
