You ask the value of reliability.  It's real simple to
figure out.  What is the cost per hour to have the company
come to a standstill.  How many times, per year, does a
standalone NT server lock up?  Add that cost to your
hardware cost then compare numbers.

I worked with a small highway paver that did the numbers and
they determined that it would cost them $10k per hour for
each hour that the distribution of paychecks were delayed.

The additional cost of IBM hardware was perceived as
"insurance".
